The Anion Gap

I ponder many things whilst waiting for the blood gas machine. "What's for tea? Am I balding on top? Does my bum look big in these scrubs?" 

Now Staff Nurse Zoe Denney has given me something else to consider - in metabolic acidosis why might this child have a raised anion gap? Probably a more productive way to spend my time..
